The Roundhouse – then and now

Posted on 28th October 2021

For years, our much-loved Roundhouse site has needed to be redeveloped to make it a truly accessible community resource.

We always knew the site had so much potential, and how much the space was valued by people in BS13, providing somewhere to relax, connect with nature, meet other people, and a great space for the kids to explore and be wild in a safe environment.

But practically, it was often a bit of a nightmare! So many times we ran events in poor weather with many people trying to shelter in the Roundhouse, or had to call off cookery workshops and outdoor activities due to the rain turning the site into a mud bath.

We longed for accessible pathways, covered spaces, a buggy storage area, a fully-functional field kitchen and an amphitheatre. It was a lot to ask, but is what was needed to allow the Roundhouse to become the effective education and events space we wanted for the BS13 community.

We can’t tell you how excited we are that this is now becoming a reality!

Throughout August and September, the landscaping and groundworks were completed on the site. We are so grateful to Enovert Community Trust for funding this phase of the project, and to 4LD Design and Larry Walker’s groundworks team for all their hard work.

We are now fundraising to be able to construct a field kitchen and disabled toilet facilities, which we hope to carry out in Spring 2022.

Would you like to get involved? We are running community tree planting days and would love your help! Find out more here.
