When I think back to the end of March 2020 as we were just going into lockdown, what made the uncertainty a little more bearable was the gorgeous weather that helped to lift our spirits and kept us aware of renewal, change and growth. This year certainly feels different. Even though there is light at the end of the tunnel with the vaccine here and a road map out of lockdown, it still feels like winter has been long and a return to warm and sunny days can’t come soon enough!
Until the days get brighter and our freedoms more assured, we’re looking forward to the exciting developments that will be happening at Heart of BS13 over the next year. As many of you will be aware, we launched our two social enterprises The Kitchen Garden and the Real Meal Store in 2020 and we’ve been delighted at the way they’ve been received by BS13 and the wider Bristol community. Starting in April there will be new Field to Fork cooking sessions taking place in our brand new field kitchen as well as Walk and Talk activities for people struggling with lack of confidence and physical activity. We’ve also been working hard to develop a new initiative that brings Climate Action to BS13 and from May onwards there will be a range of activities and programmes for people of all ages to get involved. Our most exciting news is that through a new partnership with Windmill Hill City Farm, later this year we will be taking over the lease of Hartcliffe Farm, bringing together ideas from across the community and tying them together with our wider ambition for green-economic development in the area.
We’re looking forward to seeing you face to face again, and it won’t be long until we do. Until then, stay safe and enjoy the signs of spring that really are coming to life.
