We interviewed Denise to find out what she gets up to at the garden and what volunteering with us means to her.
How long have you been volunteering with us?

What jobs do you get up to?
Planting, floristry, watering, making tea and coffee, weeding
What do you love the most?
I love the floristry, and cutting brambles!
What do you enjoy about being at the garden?
Meeting new faces, communicating with other people, eye contact
What skills have you learned?
planting, floristry, sowing seeds and growing plants, weeding, hosting people, making fine compost
What plants have you seen grow from seed to harvest?
Beetroot – we have a lot of it now
What is your favourite thing that we grow?
I like the turnips, parsnips and chard
What friends have you made?
Sol, Jo, Alex, Brian, Lisa, Kelly, Mark – loads
If someone was thinking about coming to volunteer here, what would you say to them?
I was a little bit nervous before I came, but everyone is really friendly and it’s really fun.
How does coming to the Kitchen Garden Enterprise affect your mood?
It improves my mood and I look forward to it. I just really enjoy being here.
