I founded the award-winning Better Food Company in 1992 but started working the land in 1974 farming organically in a community in Scotland before moving to Bristol in 1981 and working at a City Farm. I’ve devoted my working life to farming, retailing and spreading the organic word, and to building communities engaged in creating a better, fairer and more sustainable world. I was a founding member of The Community Farm and helped vision and support several other Bristol-based food and farming projects.
Under my stewardship, Better Food has grown to 3 stores with 2 more planed before 2023. It has a £7m turnover and I’m proud of its impact in helping to create a better fairer world for all. I recently published the book ”Food for Thought” based on my life-long experience and insights into the Sustainable Food system. Filled with fascinating stories, tempting recipes, helpful tips and insightful contributions, to empower people to take the lead on their own sustainable food journey.
